Lying within a 7,000-acre metro park is the 14,000sq.ft. Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park Nature Center. Partially nested into the hillside to minimize visual impact on the landscape, the south-facing facade maximizes the prairie views and day-lighting opportunities within the interior of the center. With sustainable design features such as: natural ventilation, passive solar design, a vegetated roof system and a geothermal heat pump system; this classroom, multipurpose and exhibit space provides flexibility of use by groups of varying sizes. With the main feature being the bison enclosure - viewable from the south facade observation deck - there are also interpretive exhibits including a "living stream" which celebrates the watershed's unique biodiversity.
