CSU Center for Innovation in Medical Professions
Center for Innovation in Medical Professions • Cleveland State University • Cleveland, Ohio • STANTEC & Pelli Clarke Pelli
Located across the street from the famed Cleveland State University (CSU) Student Center, the Center for Innovation in Medical Professions is the home to not only CSU’s schools of nursing and health sciences, but also the campus health services, hearing and speech clinics; and a collaborative program with Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED). Students will learn to work on medical teams in a collaborative manner similar to that intended for the Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve Health Education Campus.
A three-story central atrium spans the full width of the building with bridges crossing the page on two levels connect the east and west portions of the building. Classrooms, teaching labs, simulation labs, offices and shared common spaces are interspersed on all three floors of the building to encourage chance meetings of faculty and students from all programs. With architectural features such as the steel structure of the atrium and stair, the dramatic wood-clad inverted pyramidal ceiling and the strong, sweeping roof cantilever allows patrons to see a straightforward view of architectural expression within the interiors. The exteriors incorporate multiple textures from warm, white terra cotta to custom extruded aluminum elements and clear and patterned glass. These finishes are all highlighted by a full-height wall of glazed yellow terra cotta which makes the main entrance.
