Details in Contemporary Architecture: As Built

We've discovered our images have been featured in 'Details in Contemporary Architecture: As Built'! You can view our work of the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business on pages 188-197 as well as the technical drawings. Generally we only see the buildings in their finished state and it's very interesting to see how our images match up to the architects original drawings!

We're a Favorite Place on Google!!

GoogFav-1.jpg

We're a favorite place on Google!! How cool is that? It means that a lot of people who use google are looking for us, and at our work. What it means to be a favorite place is that google is now making it easier than ever to find us. They've sent us a window decal that we can attach to our window that has a barcode that is formulated for cell phone cameras to read. Once they scan the barcode it launches a the browser straight to a page containing information about our company!

We were surprised to find ourselves being a favorite place on google, but we're super excited about it!

For more information about Favorite places on Google please visit this page. To find out more about the various cell phone app required to access this cool feature please visit this page.

"Lost in Egypt" published in CMH

cmh-egypt.jpg

The July and August issue of CMH just arrived at our studio the other day. I thought that I would mention it because it highlights Brad's trip to Egypt last year to aid COSI in their production of "Lost in Egypt exhibit that is currently open. The article, written by Kelli Gaza Nowinsky, who is the Public Relations Manager at COSI, is primarily an overview of the trip and amazing access that was given to COSI while they were putting the it all together. Which is fine by us, as it serves to be a wonderful vehicle to show off some more of Brad's awesome photography! If you're interested in getting the back story to the production of "Lost in Egypt check out the exhibit's blog that was updated daily while they were in Egypt.

If you happen to be local you can go and grab a free copy of CMH at just about any respectable location; something that we highly recommend doing, because in our opinion the magazine just keeps getting better. Plus so far we're two for two with getting them to publish Brad's photography.

2009 Corporate Caring Award!

_MG_0013.jpg

Last Thursday feinknopf won a 2009 Corporate Caring Award; in the Arts & Humanities section for all of the work that we donated to various non-profit organizations in town last year.

The Corporate Caring Award is an annual award given out every year by Columbus Business First to celebrate corporate philanthropy. Already in its 13th year the Corporate Caring awards are given out to 3 companies in each of the 4 categories. Awards are given to small, medium, and large companies based on the amount of employees in one of the following categories: Arts & Humanities, Education, Environmental & Civic, and Health & Human Services.

To be given an award a company first has to be nominated for the award by an organization that they've done work for. Upon nomination they have to fill out a descriptive, and informational submittal. Which is then judged against all the other applicants.

We are very pleased and honored to receive an award and hope that we can continue to live up to its ideals in the coming years.

Building Design & Construction Cover!

Levine.jpg

We were just informed by Karlsberger today that one of Brad's shots of Levine Children's Hospital was chosen to be on the cover of this month's issue of Building Design & Construction Magazine. We're very excited that this project is getting the recognition that it deserves. The article cover's some of problems involved in designing a children's hospital, essentially how to make bright, warm and inviting without making it totally cheesy, raising the design but keeping it kid friendly. If you've ever been to the addition that Karlsberger did at Levine I think that we all can agree that it solves the problems involved wonderfully.

To read the article please visit Building Design & Construction's website, where if you notice they use one of Brad's photo as the website's current masthead, as well as featuring to more images of Brad's in the article.

Karlsberger listed in Interior Design's Giant's of Healthcare

DMH-IntDsn.jpg

We were just belatedly going through November's issue of Interior Design when low and behold we noticed that Karlsberger was again listed as on of the "Giants of Healthcare". They were ranked in the top 3/4 of Healtcare firms, we couldn't be more pleased to see them get the attention and respect that they deserve. What's more, Interior Design ran one of Brad's images of Dublin Methodist Hospital.

The only thing that we're sad about is that we didn't notice, or find out sooner. Do our friends at Karlsberger a favor and follow the link.

Heery wins ASID award for their work on the Woody Hayes Athletic Center

WoodyHayes-1.jpg

We just learned today that the Woody Hayes Athletic Center at The Ohio State University, a HEERY Project; which we were lucky enough to photograph won a Gold ASID award this past spring. This is exciting news because it's the first time that HEERY has won such an award, it is also<< the first project that Brad has photographed to win a Gold ASID award. So in a bizarre way it's like we've won the award with them.

We would like to congratulate everyone at HEERY and wish them continued success. To see what else HEERY is working on please visit their website.

AIA Revises it's Best Practices

AIA_BestPractices.jpg

AIA has just recently revised their Best Practices section of their website. Which included updating all of the information contained within the pdf’s. It seems, as though would be quite a bit of work and I’m sure whoever had the pleasure of doing is glad that it’s done. However we are very pleased to have been a part of the process. Brad’s image of the Boston Convention Center, designed by Rafael Vinoly Architects, is being featured on the first page of the section 6.3.08 titled ‘Controlling the Cost of a Photography Assignment’.

We look forward to perusing all of the changes that they made to the pdf’s and gleaming whatever new morsels of knowledge have been added to it. Of particular interest to our clients might be the pdf’s found in Chapter 6, Part 3, Sections 5-9; they deal with how to hire and work with a photographer. It’s always a good idea to get a refresher on how these things are supposed to be done. Please give it a look here, it might not be fun but I’m sure it’ll be educational.

The Studio just wanted to let everyone know that if they happen to be in Boston on May 15-17 then they might want to stop by the Convention center. Brad submitted and chosen to have two (out of twenty) of his images hung in a small Gallery space during the convention. His images of The Boston Convention Center by Rafael Vinoly, and the restoration of the Ohio Supreme Court Building by Schooley Caldwell. I attached them above so that everyone might see them.

We only wish that Skybus hadn't gone bust then we could have went to convention and seen the show.

Feinknopf Studio Wins AIA Columbus Small Projects Award

Congratulations to Jonathan Barnes Architecture + Design on winning an AIA Columbus 2006 Small Project Honor Award for designing our studio space here at Feinknopf. The Small Project Awards are aimed at recognizing those projects that usually fly under the radar of most awards juries due to a lack of size and/or budget yet are still deserving of recognition. It also helps call attention to the many benefits an architect can bring to a low-key project. All of us here at Feinknopf would like to thank JBAD for designing such a great space for us.

100 Locations in Two Weeks

We recently completed one of the most intensive photo shoots we have ever attempted. We photographed one hundred malls across the midwest, from Lima, Ohio all the way to Rapid City, South Dakota. In just over two weeks, we drove over 5,000 miles, caught 26 flights, spent over $100 on maps, ate who knows how many meals, took countless photographs, and still came in on time and at budget. After a shoot like that, there's little doubt that we can't handle any job a client can throw at us.
